Year Curriculum
- 14.2 weeks
- Primary responsibility for patients under faculty supervision
- PGY-1 emergency medicine residents will work approximately
55 hours per week.
- 5.8 weeks
- Participate as member of the Trauma Team on Trauma Activations
- Resident has same level of responsibility as PGY-1 in
surgery
- Majority of time spent with SICU patients on the Trauma
Service
- 4 weeks
- Patients requiring cardiology consultation
- Resident works directly with attending Cardiology staff
- 4 weeks
- Patients admitted to the ICU and CCU with primary responsibility
for patient care
- Resident has same level of responsibility as PGY-1 in
internal medicine
- 4 weeks
- Labor and delivery and outpatient clinics
- 4 weeks
- Provide emergency care for orthopedic problems in the
emergency department and orthopedic outpatient clinics
- 4 weeks
- Opportunity to learn endotracheal/nasotracheal intubation,
use of pharmacologic adjuncts to intubation
- Clinic experience in ophthalmology and plastic surgery.
- 4 weeks
- Evaluation and management of pediatric patients with urgent
medical and surgical conditions.
- 4 weeks
- This time is focused on management of hand injury, as
well as exposure to management of wounds in general
- 4 weeks
- Ride with ambulances
- Opportunities for air ambulance experience
- Structured educational experience in prehospital medical
control
