Absence Policy

Purpose
To outline the policy regarding absence from work.
Background
According to ACGME guidelines, any time off duty in excess of a
cumulative total of 6 weeks leave (combining vacation, conference,
personal leave, and sick leave) will require additional time to
complete the residency program.

Responsibilities
Please review the HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education
resident/fellow leave policy in the IME orientation manual.

At the discretion of the Program Director, a resident that is frequently ill
will be expected to provide a note from his/her doctor upon returning to
the service and/or may be requested to be examined by the Hospital's
Employee Health Services.

Residents will not leave the hospital simply because their service is quiet.
They are to use that time for reading, chart completion, log/case entry,
etc. and be physically present in the house in case of an emergency
unless special approval is obtained from the Program Director
