I oversee most of the ultrasound education and quality improvement for the emergency department and residency. Peter Kumasaka helps with this. I am also the course director for an ultrasound course offered by the University of Minnesota Medical School (EMMD 7512: Bedside Ultrasound for the Clinician). I see myself as a practical sonographer – how can ultrasound enhance patient care, not detract from it. Currently, I am conducting one research project using ultrasound to assess the collapsibility of the internal jugular vein in patients with dyspnea. The goal is to identify those with congestive heart failure as a cause of their dyspnea.
Outside of ultrasound, my research interest focuses on computed tomography (CT) use in the emergency department. My overarching goal with this research is to determine ways of decreasing CT scan use while continuing to provide good care to patients.
Current Positions: Research Director, Director of Ultrasound Education
