Program Application

We participate in ResidencyCAS and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applications are submitted through your medical school dean’s office or the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Please contact your medical school student affairs or dean’s office or the ECFMG for instructions. Applications will not be accepted through the mail.

  • Regions Hospital EM residency offers 11 PGY-1 positions.
  • Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

A complete application includes:

  • Transcript from your medical school
  • Dean’s letter (MSPE)
  • Three letters of recommendation (Usually from physicians and ideally include two from an emergency medicine physician) including at least one SLOE.
  • A copy of your USMLE or COMLEX Step 1 (required for all applicants), and USMLE or COMLEX Step 2 (when available), USMLE Step 2 preferred, but not required.
  • Letter of recommendation from your Program Director (if applicable)

Interview Invitations: Send on a rolling basis starting in early October

Application Deadline: November 1, 2025

Program Response Deadline: December 15 (coincides with military match)

Interview Day – 2025-2026

A description of what will happen on your Emergency Medicine interview day at Regions Hospital in 2025-2026.

We will have both virtual and in-person interviews but the format for the day does not change. There will be a social event the evening before most interview days. Applicants will be sent residency program information including videos prior to the interview day.

  • Applicants welcomed by Cullen Hegarty, MD (Program DIrector) who gives an overview of the program and description of the day
  • Applicants will have a presentation by Brad Hernandez, MD (Assistant Program Director) to learn finer details about the program
  • Applicants interview either in-person or virtually with the Program Director, 2 APD’s, and one chief resident
  • Residency Manager will review benefits
  • Residency Coordinator will do final wrap up and answer final questions
  • An interview feedback survey will be distributed after the completion of the day
